History

Hawk Dance Farm is located on land which was formerly a dairy farm. The surrounding land has only been used for hay production and has never been sprayed.

Owners Damon Clift & Diane Creed have been farming here since 2008. Formerly from New York City, we studied for many years to become farmers. We grew vegetables on a small scale at our home in Queens and we attended NOFA conferences, took workshops and eventually Damon apprenticed at Common Ground Farm and Oakgrove Farm before starting to grow on our land in Hillsdale, NY.

Our first season of growing to sell at a farmers market was in 2009 and was pretty much an introduction by fire! We, along with many other farmers in our area were hit by tomato blight which pretty much decimated our heirloom tomatoes. Undaunted, we carried on the next year. We sold our vegetables in Philmont, NY as well as Great Barrington, and Sheffield MA. We eventually were able to join the Millerton, NY farmers market and continued there for many years. We are now members of the Copake Hillsdale Farmers Market and Diane is on the steering committee for this market as well.
