2017 Season

January 2017

Damon and I are starting off the New Year by perusing all the new seed catalogs we receive here at the farm. Unfortunately, not all seed catalogs are created equal. A lot of catalogs come from companies that sell genetically modified seeds. We here at Hawk Dance Farm refuse to patronize companies that sell these seeds. We won’t buy from any company that sells GMO seeds and also has an Organic line as we don’t wish our money to support a company that already is selling GMO seeds.

We buy our seeds from High Mowing Seeds which sells USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project verified seeds. They have also taken the Safe Seed Pledge. Here is a little history about our favorite seed grower. “High Mowing Organic Seeds began in 1996 with just over 28 varieties, many of which originated in founder Tom Stearns’ backyard. Since then our company has grown exponentially, and what started as a one-man operation is now a thriving business making available to home gardeners and commercial growers over 600 heirloom, open pollinated and hybrid varieties of vegetables, fruit, herb and flower seed. True to our roots, High Mowing Seeds continues to grow many of the varieties we sell on our 40- acre farm, setting us apart from the majority of the other seed companies”

We also occasionally buy seeds from The Hudson Valley Seed Company which is local to our area. They also sell Certified Organic, non-GMO seeds but not as many varieties as High Mowing.

This is our pledge to our customers, we believe in order to provide ourselves as well as you with the best produce we can grow we need to start with the best seeds you can find and we believe the companies we patronize are the best!

Peace,
